Directional Driller

Job Function / Purpose

  • Operate Gyrodata, Inc. directional & RSS directional tools for directional drilling operations and act as lead on straight hole, slant well or S well jobs and supports Lead RSS Directional Driller on more complex 3-D & horizontal wells Essential Duties
  • Spend time in the RSS workshop assisting technicians build, strip down, and commission RSS tools.
  • Proficiently understands of the components of each RSS directional drilling tool, and its functions
  • Operates proficiently directional drilling & RSS directional drilling tools and continuously develops skills and knowledge to apply at more complex drilling conditions
  • Travel to client jobsites and remain on site
  • Represent Gyrodata, Inc. in a positive and professional manner and communicate clearly with client representatives
  • Submit to and comply with all applicable Gyrodata, Inc. and client pre-employment screening and qualifications, including audiograms, physicals and drug testing
  • Comply with all applicable Gyrodata, Inc. and client safety and training requirements and provide corresponding documentation, including Jobsite Awareness Forms
  • Comply with Gyrodata, Inc. Driving Policy
  • Executes proficiently all aspects of directional drilling preparations, including optimizing the bottom hole assembly (BHA) configurations, conducting visual inspections of tools and equipment, measuring inner /outer tool diameters, ensure proper strapping tools and troubleshooting, as required for operation
  • Executes proficiently all aspects of specific RSS directional drilling preparations, including bit selection, understanding of pre-run systems testing and troubleshooting, surface equipment, programming logic, as required by operation
  • Competently performs calculations and projections for horizontal wells
  • Proficient to troubleshoot and resolve problems, including switching out bits, replacing MWD tools, accessing component wear and tear, motor weakness and any other failures
  • Proficient to troubleshoot and resolve RSS problems real-time, including downhole drilling conditions, steering control issues, downhole programming issues, and any RSS related failures
  • Proficiently executes tasks necessary for job completion, including laying down BHA and visually inspecting motor and equipment
  • Proficiently executes all tasks necessary for job completion specific to the RSS drilling tools, including visual inspections, post run analysis, downloading memory data, acquiring drilling data, processing memory data, full surface evaluation of all systems, and reviewing any downhole control failures
  • Proficiently processes RSS log data, incorporating obtained drilling data, and depicting data in a graphical presentation, with a complete understanding of the graphical presentation.
  • Properly ship tools and equipment back to Gyrodata, Inc.
  • Test tools and install at client jobsite as directed by RSS Directional Drillers
  • Remove and disassemble equipment and tools as directed by RSS Directional Drillers
  • Maintain documentation for client jobs, including: preparing job tickets; daily drilling reports; daily well-guide run reports; end-of-well reports; well-guide EOWR with processed graphic depiction of runs; motor reports; shipping tickets; survey listings; all applicable Gyrodata, Inc. administrative paperwork and electronic documentation
  • Attend pre-job meetings as necessary
  • Competent in training Directional Driller Trainees, Directional Drillers I and RSS Directional Drillers II

HSE Function

  • Comply with applicable safety standards and maintain a safe working environment

QA Function

  • Comply with applicable quality assurance standards

Required Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 10 years or more experience in down hole oil field services
  • Work experience on drilling rig floor with experience of knowing how to work safely in this environment
  • Mastery of all Directional Driller I job duties or industry equivalent
  • Valid driver s license
  • Clean motor vehicle record
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to work non-office hours and weekends
  • Ability to be on call 24 hours per day 7 days a week
  • Ability to remain on job site for extended periods
  • Ability to record data and demonstrate good record-keeping skills
  • Ability to use basic hand tools
  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally
  • Ability to use a computer for accessing and sending e-mail, opening and revising documents, accessing internet and web-based Gyrodata, Inc. systems, including SharePoint, Agresso and ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years experience as a directional driller utilizing RSS tools, with complete competency in the qualification of a RSS Directional Driller Trainee, Directional Driller I, and RSS Directional Drillers II

Working Conditions

  • The job is performed at the client s outdoor job site and involves exposure to the elements, including extreme heat and cold and significant travel. The job requires exposure to safety hazards, such as exposure to heavy machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, and possible exposure to toxic chemicals . The job requires routine physical exertion, including sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 60 pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting and a wide range of physical motion. The job requires operation of tools, machinery, equipment, computers and telephones. The job requires following written and oral instructions, attention to detail, ability to multitask, ability to work with others, ability to meet deadlines, compliance with safety protocols and regular attendance. The job requires attention to emergency and time sensitive tasks, which may include working irregular and prolonged hours. The job requires following established policies and procedures and meeting quality and safety standards. The job requires making decisions based on experience and knowledge without supervision, as well as supervising, directing and training others. The job requires responsibility for results.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
